Chester First Aid SquadCouncil Liaison to the Chester First Aid Squad– Matt Kass

The Chester First Aid Squad is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that provides basic life support services in the roughly 31 square miles of Chester Township and Chester Borough, as well as in surrounding communities when requested.

The Chester First Aid Squad is on call 24 x 7. Last year we answered over 860 emergency calls and we take great pride in providing compassionate and competent care to our patients. Our all-volunteer squad consists of members who are trained Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and ambulance drivers.

We work very closely with the Chester Township and Borough Police Departments, as well as the Chester Volunteer Fire Company. Advanced Life Support services are provided by both Saint Clare’s Health System and Atlantic Health System. Aeromedical Services are provided primarily by New Jersey State Police NorthSTAR and Atlantic Health System’s Air One. In addition, we work very closely and enjoy friendly relationships with our neighboring mutual aid squads which include Long Valley, Bedminster, Peapack-Gladstone, Mendham Township, Mendham Borough, Flanders, Randolph, and Roxbury.

We are stationed at 100 North Road in the Highlands Ridge Park – the old Bell Labs/Telcordia property… aka “the telephone pole farm.” Chester Township acquired this property in 2004 and subsequently offered part of the main building to the squad shortly thereafter. We thank them for their generous offering, as this arrangement provided us the opportunity to move from an overcrowded section of the Chester Firehouse to a larger building which has allowed us to grow our organization.

We currently have three ambulances and a support unit, and it’s not uncommon for two or three of our ambulances to be on the road at the same time, tending to different or large emergencies. In addition to emergency calls, the Chester First Aid Squad provides stand-by medical support at community events such as the Chester Fireman’s Carnival and Chester Day.
