On Friday, July 29th Chester Township & Borough Recreation Director in cooperation with Chester Township Summer Day Camp hosted a very special event called “HEROES DAY” to honor our local Police Officers, Sheriff’s Dept., Firefighters, First Aid, and Veterans. These everyday Heroes were honored with songs, poems, thank you notes and a light reception expressing appreciation for keeping Chester safe and protecting our way of life.

The Chester Township Police Dept. arranged a visit from the Morris County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit & Bomb Squad which educated and entertained campers and visitors alike. The K-9 Unit & Bomb Squad comprise a specialized team of sheriff’s officers that use highly trained dogs to perform services such as search and rescue operations, narcotics and arson detection, and fugitive tracking. Working in tandem with the Bomb Squad, this unit also responds to explosive emergencies for purposes of bomb detection and disposal.

Chester Volunteer Fire Dept. and Chester Volunteer First Aid, along with the Chester Township Police Department brought their vehicles for the campers to explore and provided everyone with a chance to see what these wonderful people do everyday for all of us.

The campers created artwork all week at camp commemorating this event and presented each department with a special Thank you Poster. They decorated the stage with an American Flag created from the campers’ hand prints.  Children dressed in Red, White & Blue and enjoyed a delicious and nutritious American flag cake made out of fruit donated by Shop Rite of Chester & Registered Dietitian Grace McGuirk.13912311_634272723402134_4715464293044195042_n
