Reading over the summer prevents learning loss and helps students to improve reading skills. The Chester Library encourages reading for fun during the summer with its Summer Reading Program.
This summer the Library will be handing out Summer Reading Kits, which contain an activity log, supplies, and a free book to get you started on your summer reading. The Reading Kits also support creativity and learning with some art and science activities, and participants receive prizes during the summer. The Library will also offer weekly story time and several outdoor events in July including a magic show and a telescope night. This program is for preschoolers through 5th grade students.
Teen readers (6th grade and older) will have their own reading program with the opportunity to win gift cards and attend outdoor craft programs.
The Library will kick-off the summer with a virtual Zoom show “Dinosaurs Rock” on June 23rd featuring museum exhibit dinosaurs and a real fossil give-away to everyone who registers! Special summer reading events are sponsored by the Friends of the Chester Library.
The Summer Reading Program will officially begin the last week of June. Please check the Library’s website for more details or contact MaryAnn Burden (email@example.com).
