Chester Township, NJ – Sustainable Jersey representatives announced that Chester Township has met the rigorous requirements to achieve Sustainable Jersey certification. Chester Township is one of 83 towns that attained certification in 2019 and was honored at the Sustainable Jersey awards luncheon on Tuesday, November 19 in Atlantic City. Jim Duffy, a member of the Chester Township Environmental Commission, accepted the award.
“Chester Township has been a part of the Sustainable Jersey program since its earliest days, and we are proud to have worked over the last decade to support its objectives,” says Mayor Marcia Asdal. “Achieving Bronze certification in 2019 makes this our fourth approved certification. Through the efforts of our Environmental Commission and its Green Team, we are pleased to continue working towards increased sustainability initiatives in our community.”
To become Sustainable Jersey certified, Chester Township submitted documentation to show it had completed a balance of the required sustainability actions, meeting a minimum of 150 action points. In addition to reaching 150 points, each certified community had to create a green team and select at least 2 out of 12 priority action options. Chester Township completed a fleet inventory and a prescription drug safety and disposal program.

Sustainable Jersey certified towns are a force for change as they create a path forward to advance sustainability.” Certified towns excelled in areas such as improving energy efficiency, health and wellness, reducing waste, sustaining local economies, protecting natural resources and advancing the arts.
