Chester Township's 2023 Budget

On Tuesday, the Council adopted Chester Township's 2023 budget. The Township's estimated effective tax rate will be $0.498, an increase over last year's rate of $0.489. For the average assessed home of $663,400, this will be an additional $59.71 in municipal taxes for the year.

State-mandated spending increased $128,123 and contractual spending increased $317,534. Discretionary spending decreased $257,674. Chester Township's taxes make up approximately 20 percent of residents' total tax bill. Two-thirds of local property taxes go to schools and 10 percent to Morris County.
